Formidable Competition
Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) has finally become a formidable competitor to cable. In 2022, Verizon and T-Mobile will begin cutting into core revenues of Comcast, Charter, Cox and Altice. By 2023, FWA will garner an equal share of new broadband subscriber additions compared to the aggregate of cable providers, and by 2024 will eclipse cable subscriber adds.
Wireless operators have recently deployed large blocks of spectrum and have largely completed generational technology upgrades that allow for a massive increase in bandwidth available to both mobile and fixed subscribers.
As 5G deployments continue, increasingly large segments of the US will have a viable alternative to traditional cable offerings.
Aggressive Market Share Growth Ahead
Given the drastically lower capex and deployment metrics of FWA, wireless operators will progressively target home and business markets as more spectrum comes online and fiber densification reaches deeper into their coverage footprint.
Market Uncertainty Creates Opportunity
– Growth rates and subscriber trends are highly predictable
– A solid understanding of technology roadmap and metrics provides clarity as well as a substantial opportunity to benefit from market uncertainty
– Proprietary metrics and benchmarking necessary as FWA rapidly moves from talking point to a financial line item
